About
This session provides further information on the life/end of life doula role, related resources available, allows people to tell their stories, and enables clarification around how Doula For Life can meet your needs. The session can also include families and/or carers.
A Doula is a trained, non-clinical professional who can provide practical, emotional, and spiritual health support. The doula walks alongside someone at a difficult point in their life to provide space, empathize and offer non-judgmental emotional care. Practical support can include helping people understand the health system, being available for appointments, exploring health resources such as pain management, and/ or being present during activities of choice such as a walk. Empowering people to make their own informed choices, connect to their inner/outer strengths and their community is also part of the role. The aim is to enable people to live their best life despite current or upcoming health challenges such as cancer. I have a background as a registered nurse for 25 years, mainly working within mental health, along with end-of-life, doula, and mindfulness training. At the end of this session, we will develop a personalised plan indicating what type of support and service is best suited to you.
The session occurs online but future sessions can be online or in person. There is an option to do this within a 1 or 2 hour timeframe, depending on how much time you would like to discuss your current situation, explore options, and on whether any family/carers would like to be involved in planning.
Following this initial session, further sessions or packages can be booked via the True Woo website.
